ABOUT HPAC

Founded in 2006, Highland Park Aquatics Club (HPAC) serves as a high-quality, competitive swim club for the city of Highland Park and nearby towns. HPAC coaches are committed to providing all swimmers with a challenging yet nurturing swimming environment.

We offer daily practice in the evenings during both competitive seasons. The Fall/Winter season runs from early Sept through mid–March; the Spring/Summer season runs from early April through late July. Although daily practices are offered, attendance at every practice is not required. HPAC attends one or two competitions per month including three home meets at Highland Park High School.

What happens at the tryout?

Swimmers will be asked to swim freestyle and backstroke across a 25-yard pool several times with a little break at each wall. Coaches may also ask to see flip turns, open turns, and streamlines, however, these are not required to join HPAC. Stronger swimmers will be asked to perform several laps so coaches can determine which group is appropriate.

Who will make the team?

We are looking for swimmers who are confident, comfortable in deep water and who can swim with their face in the water. HPAC swimmers have exhausted swim lessons and are ready for competitive swimming. Technically, we expect our swimmers to swim from one end of the 25-yard pool to the other in both Freestyle (front crawl) and Backstroke without stopping or struggling, and repeat that several times with small breaks.

Next Steps?

If your swimmer is ready to join HPAC, we will send you an email with their group placement and registration information. After registration, they are welcome to come to practice. Short course season runs from September through mid-March. Long course season runs from early April through mid-July.

What is HPAC?

HPAC is a competitive swim club that is affiliated with USA Swimming which supports over 400,000 member swimmers nationwide. Our professional coaching staff offers a competitive yet nurturing swimming environment in which swimmers can make friends, build self-confidence & learn to set and reach for goals.

When are practices and what are groups?

Practices are in the evening after 5:30 (depending on group). Daily attendance is not required, however we do offer daily practice to accommodate families. Most new swimmers are placed in Mini Giants for ages 8 and Under, Little Giants for Ages 9-10, and Giants for ages 11-14.

When/where are swim meets and is my swimmer ready?

As a team HPAC will attend approximately 1-2 swim meets per month. Most swim meets are local – within an hours drive. HPAC hosts several meets during our Fall/Winter season at the Highland Park HS pool. If your swimmer is on HPAC, they are definitely ready for a swim meet! Our professional coaching staff takes great pride in helping new swimmers with their first swim meets. Sign 'em up, and we will do the rest. :-)

Parent member responsibilities?

HPAC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization made up of its family members. Our organization is funded by season dues, and various fundraising events, including 2-3 HPAC hosted swim meets at Highland Park high school. We require all parent members to participate at our hosted meets.
